About Lockhouse Gallery
Named after the rich and storied history of the C & O Canal towpath, lockhouses served as the homes of the families who tended to the day-to-day operations of the canal. The existing and lovingly restored lockhouses are now proudly under the stewardship of the National Park Service. Their enduring structures, spirit, and essence continue to resonate to this day, offering a glimpse into a bygone era.
Lockhouse Gallery, founded and operated by artist Kimberly Yourick, embodies the creativity of the surrounding community and showcases the work of many talented artists. It is situated in Brunswick, Maryland, a Potomac river town that was one of the largest rail yards on the B & O Railroad. Visitors will appreciate the easy access to Loudon County, Virginia, and the surrounding Frederick County area, as well as the proximity to Washington, D.C., just an hour and fifteen minutes away. Bicycle enthusiasts utilizing the C & O Canal towpath will find our space inviting, offering a selection of smaller works perfect for taking home.
The gallery represents a vibrant cross-section of art, from paintings of all genres to fine craft jewelry and woodworking, making it a must-visit destination for art lovers and collectors alike. Our initial roster include some very well established artists but also many artists who have been quietly creating in their studios, and in plein air, due to their true love of expression. Our intention is to more fully involve the Brunswick community in future endeavors. We look forward to giving artistic energy to the area!
